Making of Masha 7

Ich werde versuchen, Euch einige Einblicke in meine Arbeitsweise zu geben.

Masha ist ein Model, das für das Croquis Cafe - Artist Figure Drawing Resource arbeitet. Ich habe sie schon mehrmals gemalt oder gezeichnet. Ich liebe einfach ihre wilden roten Haare :)

Ich beginne mit einer digital vorbereiteten Leinwand. Diejenigen unter Euch, die Corel Painter verwenden, können die Original-Canvas-Datei hier herunterladen. Es ist eine RIF-Datei und kann nur in Painter geöffnet werden.

I'll try to give you some insights into how I work.

Masha is a model working for the Croquis Cafe - Artist Figure Drawing Resource. I have already painted or drawn her several times. I just love her wild red hair :)

I start with a digital prepared canvas. For those of you who are using Corel Painter you can download the original canvas file here. It's a rif-file and can only be opened in Painter.

Zuerst habe ich nach einem Foto eine Skizze gemacht. Für Porträts verwende ich normalerweise Schwarzweißfotos, weil ich bei farbigen Fotos immer versuche, den "richtigen" Hautton zu finden. Bei schwarz/weiß Fotos fühle ich mich freier, zumal man für ein Porträt jede Farbe benutzen kann, sei sie auch noch so schrill und exotisch. Die Hauptsache ist, die Farbwerte stimmen, dann wird es funktionieren.

Ich benutze normalerweise den Oil Sketcher von TAQ Schmiddies für die Skizze. Dies ist ein ziemlich grobes Zeichenwerkzeug, das mich daran hindert, zu detailliert zu arbeiten:

First I made a sketch after a photo. For portraits, I usually use black and white photos, because with colored photos I always try to find the "right" skin tone. With black and white photos, I feel more loose, because I can use any color for a portrait, even if it is shrill and exotic. The main thing is that the color values are correct, then it will work.

I usually use the Oil Sketcher from TAQ Schmiddies for the sketch. This is a pretty rough tool and I am not tempted to work too detailed:

Als nächstes kommt Farbe auf die Leinwand. Hier habe ich einen ziemlich großen Malspachtel und einen Sargentpinsel sowie einen groben Mischpinsel benutzt. Dies sind die Pinsel, die ich für den Rest des Gemäldes verwenden werde.

Next comes paint on the canvas. Here I used a pretty big Knife Brush and a Sargent Brush as well as the Scumble Blender. These are the brushes that I will use for rest of the painting.

Ihr seht, ich habe die Untermalung unterhalb des Canvas Overlays erstellt. Dadurch wirkt die Farbe dünn und wässerig, da der Leinwandüberzug durchscheint. Ich werde die Farben der Teile des Gemäldes, die ich hervorheben möchte, oberhalb des Canvas Overlays auftragen. Die Farben erscheinen dann dicker und gesättigter.

You see, I created the underpainting under the Canvas Overlay. As a result, the paint looks thin and liquefied, because the canvas overlay shows through. I will apply the parts of the painting that I want to emphasize above the canvas Overlay. The color will then appear thicker and more saturated.

Jetzt habe ich Farbe über dem Canvas-Overlay und über der Skizze aufgetragen. Vorsichtshalber habe ich eine Kopie der Skizzenebene erstellt, für den Fall, dass ich sie noch einmal brauche. Der Ebenenstapel sieht jetzt so aus:

Now I have applied color above the canvas overlay and above the sketch layer. As a precaution, I made a copy of the sketch layer in case I get lost. The layer stack now looks like this:

Von nun an werde ich alle Ebenen ablegen und nur noch auf der Arbeitsfläche malen:

From now on, I will drop all layers and work only on the canvas layer:
